What is Ethernet
Ethernet is a family of computer networking technologies commonly used in "local area networks" (LANs) and over a period of time has largely replaced older competing wired LAN systems such as token ring.
Nowadays nearly every home has a connection to the Internet utilising a Router that provides WiFi but the humble Ethernet connection - those funny looking plug socket things on the back of your Router - is still present!
Home Automation systems commonly use Ethernet connectivity for their "central" controller or gateway because a hard-wired connection still comes out on top if you need fast and reliable communications.
