A magnetic window sensor consists of two parts: a magnet and a sensor, usually a reed switch, installed on the window frame and the moving part of the window. When the window is closed, the magnet keeps the reed switch closed, completing an electrical circuit. If the window is opened, the magnet moves away, causing the reed switch to open and break the circuit, which triggers an alert or alarm in the security system.
