On Fibaro's website for this product it shows it being able to be installed in audio equipment but there are no references to that type of setup in the manual or instructions. Has anyone tried to use the implant in any appliance to make it smart? If so I assume the compatibility will be based on the appliance and the internal wiring if it can be done.

Yes exactly, it can be installed "anywhere" if there's a 9V-30V DC power supply available within the appliance and the appliance has dry-contact (potential free) inputs / outputs that can interfaced with.
For example I've used one in my alarm system, powered from the available 12V internally, to give an indication of when the system is armed and triggered and also to allow the Z-Wave controller to arm and disarm the system.
