I haven't tried it (yet) but they say it should be used with the Fibaro Radiator Thermostat Sensor if mounted vertically. I'm only guessing but perhaps mounting it vertically affects the accuracy of the internal thermometer. One sensor can control up to three valves which might be useful in a large room.

I have had two for just over a month now and they are mounted vertically and seem OK without the external sensor.

My understanding is that mounted horizontally the inbuilt sensor is physically going to be closer to the radiator so not as accurate with regard to room temperature. However you could just allow for this in the programming
