The original version of the Fibaro Smoke Sensor did have an external power supply option. But the removed that when they introduced the Smoke Sensor Plus. The original version is no longer available. If you need a Z-Wave Smoke detector that complies with building regs and has an external power supply option, I'd suggest looking at the Popp Smoke Detector.

There were terminals in the unit to connect to an external power source but I stayed with battery operation. It reports battery level back to you.

No this Z-wave Plus version is battery only. I haven't had it long enough to verify Fibaro's claim but they say it wil last a few years and it will let you know when a change is due.

That would have been the original version, not the Smoke Sensor Plus. The user guide shows there are no external connections available -http://www.vesternet.com/index.php/downloads/dl/file/id/452/product/0/z_wave_f

Apparently, the Fibaro Smoke Sensor Plus can be connected to the mains via a 12/24v DC transformer. But it doesn't meet UK regs which is a shame because it is more aesthetically pleasing. The Popp looks like it has the same functionality and it meets UK regs but it it not pretty.

Sorry, assumed Vesternet would have matched my purchase with your requirements. You'll have to refer back to them.

The Popp doesn't look as nice as the Fibaro, but it can be externally powered. It can also be associated with other Popp smoke sensors so they all work as a group - if one sensor sounds an alarm, it triggers all of the others (this is also a requirement for building regs).

The regs in the UK require me to connect the smoke detector to the mains, battery operation isn't allowed here. Having spoken to them this morning i realised that they are not compatible with UK standards so i cant use their system :-(

Hi, That's true. As I explained, the Popp detector is the only Z-Wave smoke sensor to meet building regs. They work in Fibaro and VERA controllers.
