I believe it can be installed in the ceiling. I have been lucky enough to be able to fit into light sockets but they are a squeeze, especially with more than one. If you search the internet for "fibaro dimmer 2 ceiling wiring" you should get a hit to the manufacturer site where further information can be provided. (Had to be vague to not violate the rules!

It depends on your switches. There's no chance it'll fit in 16mm. It might fit in 25mm if you are lucky and are using switches which don't protrude too much (the mini grid ones seem to be good for this). Before you drill, size it up in your hands, don't forget the space for the cable too!

Depends on your wiring. But it can install in both places. You need a constant feed a neutral and a switchwire. In a two wire system that you may have at your switch (if it's traditional wiring) you'll need to join the neutral with the switchwire. I think there's diagrams on this website and in the manual, but I have taken pictures of how I wired some up. If you want I can send you them. Good luck.

It has to be in the switch socket, however it does depend on what stage you are with your build. If you are doing first fix then you can run an extra wire, just make sure your electrician understands what's needed.

Either way works, but the switch socket may be easier, depending what switch you're using.
- If you've got a two way and off (momentary / retractive) switch, such a the Varilight Z2DG102SRS) so you can have dim up and down buttons, then you'll need to have 3 cores (Sx S1 S2) and earth between the switch and the module. This is easier if the module is near the switch (although not impossible to do it next to the light fitting)
- If you are going to be doing the switching with a single way switch (e.g. a push button or toggle on/off) then you will only need two cores and earth (Sx S1) which may already be in the wall. In this case, you could locate the module right next to the fitting if that was more convenient.
If you're going to put it with the switch, you'll probably need a 50mm backbox (ideally plastic, so it doesn't block the wireless signal)

I put mine in the roof cavity above the lights, but if you are replacing existing wiring, you will probably want to put it in the switch.

From a wiring perspective you can do either and I have them installed in switch boxes and light fittings depending on what suited my needs. However, you will need the fitting to have plenty of space for both the module and any additional connectors required to ensure it works and still allow for switch function.

You can do either as long as you can run the required wires for the switches down to your switch box and satisfy the wiring needs of your house in terms of any chaining of lights etc.
I think generally people tend to put them in the switch box (that's what I have on all of mine) as it's probably the easiest point to access.

No problem installing this at the light fitting or in the ceiling. You would also have neutral which will make some functions work better. If you would like a wiring guide, just drop an email to our support guys.

I have fitted both ways , works fine so long as you have room and don't need any other control switches.

It can fit in the light fitting if you're lucky, but the device is quite big for a standard 25mm surface mount box. Vesternet sell smaller units. Also, if you're intending to dim dimmable LED's you may need the neutral wire as the resistor thing doesn't always work well.

Thanks for the reference to diagrams - Vesternet actually has everything needed to understand this. Search for installing the Fibaro Dimmer 2 and also the explanation of 2 and 2 wire systems. It actually looks easier to install in the ceiling with a proper 2 wire system. Which for me would be better. Thank you all for your help. :)
